33 Chapel Street, Penzance, Cornwall

A stylish Grade II town house in the heart of Penzance

With a history stretching back to the Bronze Age, Penzance is a sunny, bohemian coastal town in West Cornwall, full of ancient nooks and crannies, old buildings and quirky streets. Nowhere is its character more vividly felt than on the town’s oldest street – winding, atmospheric Chapel Street, which meanders down to the sea. The street is now lined with independent boutiques, antiques shops, galleries, restaurants and pubs, all occupying centuries-old properties – not a chain in sight.

Luxury for less

Located at the quiet, seaward end of Chapel Street, No.33 is an instantly charming Grade II-listed Georgian ‘cottage town house’ that has been carefully refurbished with respect for its long history. It has period open fireplaces, an original Cornish granite frontage and wooden sash windows, but has been brought thoroughly up to date with all the luxuries of a modern retreat: roll-top bathtub, internet-enabled plasma screen, fluffy towels, Egyptian cotton linens, chilled wine on arrival and more.
At No.33, we like to think we provide all the comforts of a boutique hotel – style, comfort, location – without the eye-watering prices, with the added freedom of having a spacious, fully equipped kitchen, a private patio garden and, of course, your own key.

The four seasons

Come in winter and you’ll have a snug, romantic shelter from the spectacular storms that batter the promenade between Penzance and Newlyn. Shore up against the weather next to the open fire – or venture a few doors up to one-time smugglers’ haunt the Turk’s Head pub, one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall, for warming pints of Betty Stoggs or Doom Bar.

Cornwall’s favourite real ales.

In summer, No.33 is a smart town house base from which to explore the coastal treasures of West Cornwall, starting with the architecturally stunning art deco Jubilee Pool, just a minute’s walk from the front door. This triangular open-air lido, filled with  sea water, is an iconic feature of Penzance promenade, and offers magnificent views out over Mount’s Bay.
